Why Should Infants be regularly taken to a Doctor for Check Ups?

The first few years of your newly born baby’s life are a base for his/her entire life. Ensuring proper care during these years will keep them free from some threatening diseases and infections throughout their lives. In order to give your child a healthy tomorrow, it is extremely important for parents to frequently make their child visit a doctor for regular Check Ups and immunizations.

Below mentioned are the ages when you should take your child to a Pediatrician to assure his/her overall development:

1.       At Birth

The pediatrician will perform Otoacoustic Emission (OAE) and Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) tests to ascertain that the baby’s hearing is fine along with a Hepatitis B shot. Also, the most important test at this time is to determine your child’s blood group.

      2.       Around a Week After Birth

Physical examination to ensure the development and behavior of the baby as well as eating habits. The baby will also undergo metabolic screening to check for conditions such as hypothyroidism, or other inherited disorders.

3.       After 1 Month

Apart from behavioral assessment and physical exam, the pediatrician will check your child’s overall growth and take measurements. A Tuberculosis test may also be conducted.

4.       After 2 Months

During this visit, your child will receive a number of vaccinations, including second doze of Hepatitis B, one doze of Rotavirus (RV), acellular pertussis (DTaP), diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, haemophilus influenza type B conjugate, pneumococcal vaccine and inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV).

5.       After 4 Months

At the time of this appointment, standard measurements and behavioral assessments will be conducted followed by a physical exam. Your little one will also get the second doze of vaccines such as DTaP, RV, Hib, IPV and PCV along with haemoglobin screening to indicate anemia.

6.       After 6 Months

Your baby will receive the third doze of the above mentioned vaccines apart from the usual procedures. If the flu season is on, an influenza test can be carried out. Also, the doctor may opt for lead screening test and check your child’s oral health.

7.       After 9 Months

Along with following the usual procedure including oral Check Up, the doctor will ensure that your baby is growing at a normal rate to determine whether more tests are to be conducted or not. The pediatrician might also ask you a few questions about your baby’s behavior.

8.       After 1 Year

The first birthday of your baby will account for his/her final doze of Hepatitis B plus a first doze of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. The usual procedures will be carried out normally.

9.       After 15 Months

Your baby during this appointment will receive the Hepatitis A vaccine as well as the fourth doze of DTaP either now or within the next three months. Overall check of your child’s overall growth will be conducted as usual.

10.   After 18 Months

The doctor might opt for an Autism Screening at this time to check for any signs of autism spectrum disorders along with hemoglobin, lead screening and oral tests.

11.   After 2 Years

Your baby is little grown up now. The doctor will assess your baby’s height, weight as well check for other usual measurements. Your child might also have to undergo dyslipidemia screening to check for lipid disorder.

Take your child for an annual Health CheckUp thereafter to be fully aware of his/her overall health condition. In case of any emergency, consult a pediatrician immediately. By paying regular visits to the doctor and getting your child’s health Check Ups frequently done, you’re giving them a healthier future.
