When to Choose Lubricated and Non-lubricated Condoms?

It is a proven fact that condoms are highly effective in preventing unwanted pregnancy as well as Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). The condoms available in the market today are of various flavors, colors, textures and sizes. They are of two types – lubricated and non-lubricated condoms. Quite often, there is a debate over when to use which condom and which one is better.
The use of lubricated or non-lubricated condoms depends on the kind of sex you want to have. While lubricated condoms offer both lubrication and protection, they are less than ideal for oral sex. Non-lubricated condoms, on the other hand, are great for oral sex.
Lubricated condoms are the latex condoms which can be lubricated with spermicides or a non-spermicidal lubricant. A number of people find lubricated condoms easier to put on and have a better experience in both vaginal and anal sex than non-lubricated condoms. However, due to the lack of sufficient lubricant, these condoms require additional lubrication for sex.
When a condom continuously rubs against the skin, it causes more friction than the skin itself. Using a silicone-based lubricant can enhance your sexual experience and lead to safer sex. It is important to know the type of lubricant used on your condom. Spermicidal lubricant can cause irritation in the lining of the vagina and anus, and have an increased risk of spreading HIV and other STDs, especially with nonoxynol – 9.
Spermicidal lubricated condoms don’t offer a great oral sex experience due to their horrible taste and can make your tongue go numb. With additional silicone-based lubricant, lubricated condoms without the presence of nonoxynol - 9 are fine for anal sex too.
Non-lubricated condoms are a smart choice for oral sex and perfect for your partner’s tongue. They offer the additional advantage of choosing a lubricant of your own liking. Although these condoms have to be paired with a water or silicone-based lubricant, they are particularly useful for people who are sensitive to the lubricants present in lubricated condoms. Unlubricated condoms are more versatile and can be used as it is for a better oral sex experience.
Flavored condoms are also a good choice for oral sex. Non-lubricated condoms can be paired with a flavored lube for an ideal experience. Unlubricated condoms are fit to use for both vaginal and anal sex with some additional lubricant of your choice.
Both lubricated as well as non-lubricated condoms have their own advantages and disadvantages. However, it is important to choose a condom that best suits your skin and provides you a better sexual experience. Remember to wear the condom properly for safer sex.
